Kept in basements for their luxurious fur, chinchillas lived for years in darkness. When demand declined, many were abandoned or sold as pets, often without proper care.

Calls for help began arriving—from closed-down farms to apartments where chinchillas suffered due to inadequate conditions and owners’ lack of knowledge. We launched a volunteer network and started the rescue efforts.

The first thing they received at our shelter was a volcanic dust bath—for their first taste of freedom.
In the first year, 120 chinchillas were rescued. The first babies were born—dark gray little balls that were hopping after their mother within an hour. Today, the population is stable, with carefully monitored breeding to avoid exceeding our capacity.
