On a hot balcony in Sutomore, while Chili – the Indian macaque – watched the world through the bars, in another cage the lemur Julian was suffering.

He was used as a prop for photos with tourists. He endured crowds, camera flashes, and hands touching him for entertainment. When panic over monkeypox arose in Montenegro, he was removed—not out of care, but simply so he wouldn’t cause inconvenience.

Without shade or care, they fed him ice cream, chips, and candy—everything that was harmful to him.

When we heard about Chili, we also heard about Julian. We unsuccessfully tried to negotiate with the owner—he didn’t even respond. But we did. With a lot of effort, we found a way to rescue the lemur.

We brought him to our shelter—frightened, exhausted, confused by freedom. But over time, he learned. Today, he knows he is no longer a prop, and you can see him enjoying the sweetest fruits.
